Västerås Sweden May 2026

Our primary objective was visiting friends Christina and Magnus, that was the very best!
Västerås offers more than I imagined. The trail out of Askôviken Naturskolans Hus where Chris works has such a healthy forest leading to a vast lake with many birds.

Magnus walked us across their backyard to a unmanned grocery store, everything controlled by phone including entry. The first aisle is entirely bins of candy that I didn't know. Magnus bought a couple of the many traditional candies. Since I couldn’t anticipate the tastes and we all had a good laugh at my reactions! Sour was very sour and sweet very sweet.
ICA To Go is the store name

Woke up too early for breakfast, so did yoga and took a quick walk around the old town. Our lovely
Hotell Arkad is very close to the train station as well as the inviting, pedestrian friendly downtown.
Breakfast buffet at Hotel
Arkad took typical European buffet and elevated it in quality.
Always try new things! I'm not a fan of hard cooked eggs, but when you put Swedish cream cheese and shrimp with fresh dill on top it's a new sensation.
Also the best desserts. Swedes have more candy varieties than I ever imagined. The cookies were excellent and the panna cotta a tremendous tasty treat.
Entertaining business name, at least the way I pronounce it (city goddess)/ likely different sounding in Swedish
Then it was time to catch the train for Gothenburg.
