Learning to use a French Laundromat

 October 2025

It was tough to find an Airbnb with location and amenities we wanted in Lyon, France.  None were close to city center AND with a washing machine. We chose location and set off on an adventure to learn how to use a laundromat in French in France.

Google maps helped us find "laundromat near me"

Clean and efficient as well as empty

There were directions in French as well and English except for one part, so I used Google translate's camera to understand the finer details.

Dying instructions were more straightforward

First round of trying to pay, we didn't read the French accurately because it added another Euro.

Realizing that we likely made an error trying to interpret the above photo, We looked more carefully and discovered we'd overlooked the option to choose a language.  4 eyes are definitely better than 2.  And we'd ordered laundry soap when using  French.

Clothes were clean and dry in less than an hour!  We were the only people there.

Lessons Learned:
Google helps both to find the place and to translate signs
Work together as a team
Look for the flag to change the language to one you know
